Char Dham Yatra 2026 season is 39 days away. The temples open on 19 April and registration is already free and open at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. On the very first day of registration, 6 March 2026, more than 1.26 lakh pilgrims registered. If you have not registered yet, do it today before your preferred dates fill up.

Closing dates: All temples close in November. Yamunotri and Kedarnath close 11 November. Gangotri closes 10 November. Badrinath closes 13 November 2026.
The traditional route must follow clockwise order: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath.
Char Dham Registration 2026 — Free And Mandatory
Registration is 100 percent free in 2026. Do not pay any agent for basic registration. It is a government service available to everyone at no cost.
Method 1 — Official Website (Recommended)
Step 1: Visit registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
Step 2: Click Register or Login
Step 3: Enter your full name and mobile number, create a password and click Sign Up
Step 4: Verify your account with the OTP sent to your mobile
Step 5: Click Create or Manage Tour Info
Step 6: Add all pilgrim details including name, Aadhaar number, age and emergency contact
Step 7: Select which Dhams you will visit and your travel dates
Step 8: Upload scanned copy of Aadhaar card in JPG or PNG format
Step 9: Submit and download your e-pass with QR code
Step 10: Print one copy and keep one on your phone

Method 4 — Offline Counters
Haridwar has 20 registration counters. Rishikesh has 30 counters. Counters also available in Dehradun, Guptkashi, Sonprayag, Uttarkashi and Pandukeshwar.
Documents Needed For Registration
Aadhaar card is mandatory in 2026. This is a new rule. PAN card, Voter ID or Passport alone will not work for registration this year. Also keep your valid mobile number for OTP, email ID and emergency contact name and phone number ready.
New 2026 Guidelines — What Has Changed
Aadhaar mandatory: Unlike previous years, Aadhaar is the only accepted ID for registration in 2026.
Daily pilgrim cap: The government has set a daily limit on pilgrims at each shrine. If the daily limit is full, you cannot enter even with valid registration. Book early for May and October dates.
QR code verification: Your QR code will be scanned at multiple checkpoints including Sonprayag for Kedarnath, Janki Chatti for Yamunotri, Pandukeshwar for Badrinath and Uttarkashi for Gangotri.
Medical certificate for seniors and children: Children under 12 and adults over 65 must carry a medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor. Get this from your hometown doctor before you leave.
Helicopter travelers must also register: Even if you travel by helicopter, Char Dham Yatra registration is mandatory. Helicopter booking and Yatra registration are two separate processes.
Mobile phones banned inside temples: Authorities have announced a ban on mobile phones and cameras inside temple premises. Carry all darshan inside your heart, not your camera.

Best Time To Visit Char Dham 2026
May to mid June is best overall with temperatures 10 to 25 degrees. September to mid October is best for fewer crowds and crystal clear skies after monsoon. July to August should be avoided due to heavy landslides and route closures. Opening days in April are most auspicious but coldest with possible snow at Kedarnath.
Packing List For Char Dham Yatra 2026
Clothing: Warm jacket or down jacket, thermal inner wear, rain poncho, waterproof trekking shoes, woolen socks 3 to 4 pairs, warm cap and gloves.
Documents in waterproof bag: Aadhaar card original and 2 photocopies, Char Dham e-pass printed and on phone, medical fitness certificate if above 65 or below 12 years.
Health and medicine: Personal prescription medicines for 2 weeks, Diamox tablets for altitude sickness consult doctor first, ORS packets, paracetamol, bandages, sunscreen SPF 50, lip balm.
Electronics: Power bank minimum 20,000 mAh, torch with extra batteries, phone with e-pass saved offline.
Other essentials: Walking stick very helpful for Kedarnath trek, cash minimum Rs 10,000 in notes as ATMs are unreliable beyond Sonprayag, water bottle 1 litre minimum, dry snacks.

Start Kedarnath trek at 4 AM. Most pilgrims start at 6 to 7 AM when it gets dangerously crowded by 10 AM. Starting at 4 AM means you trek in peace and get front row darshan.
Carry cash from Haridwar. ATMs beyond Sonprayag are frequently empty during peak season. Carry at least Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 in cash from Haridwar or Rishikesh.
Book hotels at least 2 months in advance. Good hotels in Guptkashi and Gaurikund fill up by February for May bookings.
Acclimatize before Kedarnath trek. Spend at least one night at Guptkashi before the 18 km Kedarnath trek to avoid altitude sickness.
